People in general follow many paths, in desire to reach all their goals. But since we truly wish to succeed in life, I think that we should realize that there is one path which includes the good of all other paths and yet surpasses them all. If we will turn ourselves to tread this path alone we will truly succeed in life.
The path is “the desire to do the will of Hashem, alone”—to desire to reach, to possess, embody, the pure will to do Hashem’s will. Surely if we ponder the matter we will see that already this is our deepest desire. Yet, in meeting the multiple challenges of every day and hour, we become occupied with the specific needs of the tasks at hand and most often are not aware of this pure underlying motivation. So simply we must occupy ourselves with discovering ways to keep, and to heighten, this awareness with us. In doing so, we will search out ways to understand Hashem’s will for us in each and every situation. When we bring this to mind: “What does Hashem want me to do here?”, we will often find ourselves very far from having an answer, and therefore must ask: “Please Hashem, let me understand your will so that I can do it.”
We can expect for Him to answer this prayer, for nothing more than this is what he asks and expects from us, and since He knows how far we are from knowing His will, certainly that which He hopes for is that we search out and ask for His help to do it. Thus, if we strengthen ourselves to place this idea in the forefront of our vision, we will ultimately surely succeed in everything. For there is no greater goal than this, and all other goals are merely tributaries of this great river. Since we put our sight on that which Hashem desires, nothing can stop us.
May it be His will to implant in our hearts an enormous ratzon to do His will, purely; and may it be His will to remove all impediments from our being able to achieve this goal.

בדרך כלל אנשים דורכים דרכים רבים ברצונם להשיג שאיפתם בחיים. אבל כיון שאנחנו רוצים באמת להצליח בחיים, נראה לי שעלינו להבין שיש דרך אחד שכלול בו כל הטוב של שאר הדרכים ושהוא באמת עולה על כולם. אם פונה את עצמנו לדרוך דרך זה בלבד, אז נצליח באמת בחיים
הדרך הזה הוא “הרצון לעשות רצון השם יתברך בלבד“—הרצון להשיג, לקנות, להפנים הרצון הטהור לעשות רצון השם יתברך. אם נתבונן בעניין, ודאי נראה שרצון זה הוא כבר רצוננו האמתי העמוקה ביותר. אלא, כשאנו פוגשים את ניסיונות החיים יום יום, אנחנו עסוקים למלאות הפרטים של כל עובדה בפני עצמו ואין אנו מקושרים לרצון העמוק הטהור הכללי הזה—לעשות רצון השם יתברך. לכן, פשוט, מוטל עלינו להתעסק בגלוי דרכים לשמור ולהגדיל בתוכנו ההכרה של רצוננו הטהורה הזה: לעשות רצון השם. על ידי זה, נחפש דרכים להבין רצון השם יתברך בשבילנו בכל מצב ומצב. כשנביא על הדעת: “מה השם יתברך רוצה שאני אעשה עכשיו כאן?”, הרבה פעמים מוצאים את עצמנו רחוק מאוד משום תשובה, ולכן חייבים לשאול: “אנא השם, תן לי להבין רצונך לי כאן כדי שאעשה אותו
יש לצפות שהוא יתברך יענה לתפילה זו, כי זה כל מה שהוא דורש ומצפה ממנו, וכיון שהוא יתברך יודע כמה רחוק אנחנו מידיעת רצונו יתברך, ודאי זה תקוותו יתברך שאנו דורשים לדעת רצונו ושאנו מבקשים ממנו עזרה לעשותו. אם נתחזק לשים מתרה זו בראש מבטנו, בסוף נצליח בכל ודאי. כי אין שאיפה נשגב מזה, וכל שאר שאפות אינן אלא כנחלים היוצאים מנהר הגדולה הזו. כיון שנשים עינינו על מה שהשם יתברך עצמו הוא דורש, שום דבר יכול לעכב הצלחתנו
